3-d Modeling of Glacial Stratigraphy Using Public Water Well Data, Geologic Interpretation, and Geostatistics

چکیده

The three-dimensional (3-D) modeling of glacial sediments often requires the use of lithologic logs from public water well data. The interpretation of such data is difficult because data collection methods are not standardized among contributing drillers, and the sequence of recorded lithologies contains both stratigraphic and facies-scale information. Geostatistics coupled with interpretation are used in this case study to determine the most probable position of a stratigraphic surface.

Constrained Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy of Asmari - Kajhdumi interval with well-log Data

Sequence stratigraphy is a key step in interpretation of the seismic reflection data. It was originally developed by seismic specialists, and then the usage of high-resolution well logs and core data was taken into consideration in its implementation. The current paper aims in performing sequence stratigraphy using three-dimensional seismic data, well logs (gamma ray, sonic, porosity, density, ...

Equilibrium-Line Altitudes of Late Quaternary Glaciers in the Zardkuh Mountain, Iran

Equilibrium-line altitudes (ELAs) of former glaciers in the Zardkuh Mountain of the Zagros Mountain Range were reconstructed from glacial-geologic data on former ice limits by using various methods. In the study area various types of glacial landforms such as outwash fans, moraines and well developed glacial cirques are observed. The results suggest that ELA were depressed 1433 m below to prese...

Integrating 3-D Facies Analysis of Glacial Aquifer Systems with Ground-water Flow Models: Examples from New England and the Gr

Modern ground-water flow models, geotechnical studies, and science-based land-use planning require knowledge of the distribution of surficial earth materials from land surface to the top of bedrock (e.g., Masterson and others, 1997a,). To be useful, modern geologic maps must portray such information three dimensionally in a way that is consistent with the regional stratigraphic framework, geote...

3-Dimensional Wells and Tunnels for Finite Element Grids

Modeling fluid, vapor, and air injection and extraction from wells poses a number of problems. The length scale of well bores is centimeters, the region of high pressure gradient may be tens of meters and the reservoir may be tens of kilometers. Furthermore, accurate representation of the path of a deviated well can be difficult. Incorporating the physics of injection and extraction can be made...

The Use of Test Pits to Investigate Subsurface Fracturing and Glacial Stratigraphy in Tills and Other Unconsolidated Materials

Joints and fractures, common in Ohio glacial tills, often influence shallow ground water flow paths and rates. Environmental site investigations in glacial till and lacustrine sediments should include determination of the glacial stratigraphy and evaluation of the presence, extent, and density of subsurface fractures. The test pit is one approach to directly assess fracturing and stratigraphy. ...
